(Washington, DC) The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board announces a public hearing to receive testimony on a written request filed by the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6A for a Moratorium Zone on H Street, NE (within ANC 6A Boundaries) that would prohibit the sale of single containers of alcoholic beverages in Class A and Class B establishments.
ANC 6A’s request indicates that it is seeking the Moratorium to promote the goals of improving the quality of life of ANC 6A residents by reducing the negative impact on the community caused by the sale of singles, such as litter, public drunkenness, and loitering, and encouraging and contributing to the economic revitalization of the H Street corridor. The proposed petition also indicates that ANC 6A is seeking to address the issue of crime.
The hearing will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 11:00 am at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, 7th Floor, ABC Board Hearing Room, Washington, DC 20002.
Persons wishing to comment may review ANC 6A’s written request prior to the public hearing. The resolution may be copied for a nominal fee or reviewed during office hours between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. Individuals who wish to testify should contact Cynthia Simms at (202) 442-4496 or via e-mail by January 12, 2006. Email contacts should include the full name, title, and affiliation - if applicable - of the person(s) testifying. Witnesses should bring nine (9) copies of their written testimony to the Board.
If you are unable to testify and wish to comment, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Copies of written statements should be submitted to Charles A. Burger, Chairman, Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Suite 7200, Washington, DC, 20002, no later than 4:00 pm., Friday, January 26, 2006.
