On Monday, January 22, 2007, the Alcoholic Beverage Control nightclub license held by Smarta/Broadway, also known as Club 1919, located at 1919 Ninth Street, NW, was surrendered by the licensee and placed into safekeeping with the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA). The ABC establishment had been the scene of a homicide that took the life of a teenager early Saturday morning, January 20, 2007. The establishment is not permitted to sell or serve alcoholic beverages while its license remains in safekeeping with ABRA.
The ABC Board is expected to announce the scheduled hearing date regarding this incident at its Tuesday, January 23, 2007 meeting. Any enforcement proceedings involving the establishment would be brought by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG). There are no hearings involving the establishment scheduled for Tuesday, January 23, 2007.
ABRA, the OAG, and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) have been working collaboratively to investigate this incident and are committed to addressing and resolving the related public safety issues and concerns.
