OAPIA Announces Its Asian/Pacific Islander Bilingual Recruiting Initiative

The Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA) announces its Asian/Pacific Islander (API) Bilingual Recruiting Initiative to help District Agencies increase their hiring of bilingual employees. This initiative is a part of the Mayor’s overall strategy to hire more bilingual employees to better serve the District’s diverse residents.

“Our API Bilingual Recruiting Initiatives provides both MPD and OAPIA a great opportunity to respond to the public safety needs of our community. We are excited about the innovation that our two Agencies can bring to serve the District,” said Soohyun Julie Koo, OAPIA’s Director.

With this new initiative, OAPIA and MPD will collaborate on developing effective strategies to attract more API bilingual recruits to join MPD. They will work jointly to increase the number of API officers.
