On November 19, 2008, members of the Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Affairs and OAPIA Staff participated in a monthly meeting. OAPIA reported that the office had or surpassed all of its target goals for the past year (FY08). One of the accomplishments include an allocation of a "community computer" with language capabilities so that the community can access information through the web. They also announced their new intiative, the South Asian Leaders Meeting, to assess and improve the needs of the community. There have been on-going discussions on how to best reach the API community in the event of an emergency. Some suggestions include reaching out through language newspapers, language audio and tv stations, and community leaders.
