Volunteers Needed for ImmigrASIAN Fair and Asian Heritage Month Celebration!

The District of Columbia Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs is sponsoring the ImmigrASIAN Fair and the Annual Asian Heritage Month Celebration on Thursday, May 25, 2006 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library in the District of Columbia. These events are organized to provide free information and services to the Asian and Pacific Islander community and to commemorate the rich Asian Heritage.

During the ImmigrASIAN Fair, health professionals will be available to provide free health screening services such as allergy, diabetes, dental, hearing, HIV, and optical examinations. Several dozen vendors participating from both private and public sectors will be available to answer questions relating to health, immigration, social security, and other human services. In the evening, the DC Mayor’s Annual Asian Heritage Month Celebration will consist of wonderful cultural performances and delicious ethnic cuisines prepared by our community restaurants. Both events are free and open to the general public. We expect a large number of participants.

With such a huge undertaking, the Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs will need plenty of assistance from volunteers to make this event an enormous success.

REASONS TO VOLUNTEER!!

  • Gain hands-on experience about the issues that impact the Asian and Pacific Islander community.
  • Support a community that, due to language and cultural barriers, has been reluctant to seek assistance from service organizations with limited knowledge.
  • See how wonderful public service can benefit our community!
  • Encounter people, network, and most of all… enjoy Asian delicacies!

There are many ways to help. For further information regarding the ImmigrASIAN Fair and the Asian Heritage Month Celebration, contact Ngoc Trinh at (202) 727-3120 or via email.
