(Washington, DC) – Over 80 vendors from across the business community recently filled a District Government conference facility to discuss the many opportunities for Certified Business Enterprises (CBE) to participate in the construction of the Consolidated Forensic Laboratory (CFL). The presentations focused on the $40 to $50 million in business prospects for qualified CBE firms in the 35 percent CBE set-aside to be mandated in the RFP for the 287,000-square-foot CFL project.
The conference, a multi-agency undertaking of the Office of Property Management (OPM) the Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP) and the Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD), attracted a broad cross-section of businesses, including both small and large general contractors, as well as numerous service and building. After the formal presentation, attendees took advantage of the conference to network at length on potential business opportunities.
The CFL will be built by OPM at 4th and Schools Street, SW. It will bring under one roof the Forensic Laboratory of the Metropolitan Police Department, the Department of Public Health Laboratory and the Chief Medical Examiner.
OPM will manage the construction of the project along with its architecture/engineering and construction management subcontractors. The RFP for the general contractor is to be released in September.
