Chief Financial Officer’s Deputy Garners Cafritz Award

(Washington, DC) Anthony Pompa, deputy CFO in the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), has been recognized by the Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation as one of five distinguished DC government employees for 2006. Pompa will receive this honor at the annual Cafritz Awards ceremony, held January 18 on the campus of The George Washington University. He is the third OCFO recipient of this Cafritz Award.

The Cafritz Foundation recognized Pompa for improving the District’s financial management, including its accounting and payroll systems. Through his leadership, the District made routine its process of timely and accurately recording accounting transactions according to generally accepted accounting principles. This effort played a significant role in ensuring the District received unqualified audit opinions on its annual financial reports, leading to the dormancy of the control board and numerous upgrades to the District’s bond ratings.

“Tony Pompa helped bring financial integrity to the District government,” said Chief Financial Officer Natwar M. Gandhi. “The Cafritz Foundation’s recognition of his work and dedication to this city is well deserved and long overdue.”

Pompa is a 10-year veteran of District government who has led the OCFO’s Office of Financial Operations and Systems since 1998, and who began his tenure in DC government simultaneously to Gandhi. Previously, he held senior management positions in the City of Baltimore Department of Finance.
