DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA), in collaboration with the AGA Group LLC, DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation, Kidsave, and the Freddie Mac Foundation, invites you to the District of Columbia’s second Youth Permanency Convening (YPC) on May 12. Social Workers can earn six free CEUs by attending, and our keynote speaker is Marian Wright Edelman.
Join us as we explore how best to achieve a life-altering outcome: that every young person leaves the child welfare system for a safe, stable, permanent home or with an enduring connection to at least one committed and caring adult. Over 1,000 youth—nearly half the District foster care population—are ages of 15 to 21. About 140 “age out” of care each year simply because they reach their 21st birthday. Studies show that youth who grow up without permanent, caring relationships overwhelmingly experience poorer outcomes than their peers. They are often unable to support themselves, have poor physical and mental health, lack adequate education and employment, are more frequently involved in the criminal justice system, and are less likely to become productive members of the community. This scenario is intolerable. We have to act!
Your support will help to ensure that every youth leaving the child welfare system in Washington, DC has enduring relationships. Follow the links for related information about the event. Register today (by April 27) at YPC Registration.
