DC foster youth will hold their fourth annual fashion show May 7, 2010 to show their “Passion for Fashion” while inviting all guests to bring toiletries to help children in Haiti. BET (Black Entertainment Television) Foundation has come onboard with Child and Family Services Agency to sponsor the teen’s fashion runway and scenery, while First Lady Michelle Obama’s hairstylist Johnnie Wright will provide complimentary hairstyles. So, what is the deal with all of the fanfare?
“It’s an opportunity for our youth to celebrate their school-year and community successes and to shine like rock-stars on the red-carpet and runway! We’re equally proud of how the youth are serving as global citizens as they use this opportunity to organize a toiletry drive in support of the children in Haiti,” said Joelle Myers, Project Manager for the Youth Empowerment program at CFSA. “They are all stars!”
"I am thrilled to partner with CFSA to produce the 4th Annual Youth Fashion Show benefiting Haiti. As a lover of all things in fashion and entertainment, this show allows me to share my unique experiences and lend fashion expertise to some incredible teens,” said Sonji Robinson, consulting producer. “The strength these teens have shown through adversity has inspired me to continue being a vessel and to commit myself to move forward regardless of circumstances. I am honored for this opportunity!"
The event will be at the Thurgood Marshall Center, a national historic landmark in Washington DC. Guests will enjoy hors d'euvres during a pre-show red carpet extravaganza where youth will introduce themselves by way of interview by celebrity style expert and host, Paul Wharton (CW television). Later, the youth will model the latest fashion trends of the season sponsored by various local businesses. To top the evening off, guests will also experience a special tribute dedicated to the children of Haiti during intermission.
The event is free and opened to the public. Guests are asked to bring a care package with the following items: (1 one-gallon plastic bag with zipper; 1 hand towel measuring 16"x28", 1 toothbrush in original package; 1 bar of soap in wrapper; 1 wide tooth comb; 1 nail clipper and 1 wash cloth.
