The Executive Office of the Mayor is raising awareness of the benefits and recognition of Community Service in the District of Columbia. Serve DC, the community service arm, is launching a campaign to heighten the application volume of the Mayor's Community Service Award.
Countless people of all ages serve in numerous ways to improve their community every day, volunteering to make the District of Columbia a stronger and better place to live. The Mayor's Community Service Award is an opportunity for citizens, corporations, government agencies, nonprofits and faith-based organizations to reward and recognize volunteers for their outstanding community service. We define service as: "A voluntary act of kindness that makes a difference in our community."
The Mayor's Community Service Award encompasses several honors, including, the Mayor's Youth Community Service Award, given to one recipient, age 24 and below, and one adult. The applications are available on the ServeDC website, and are accepted on a rolling basis.
The criteria for the awards includes; nominees who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to volunteerism, demonstrate acts of generosity and kindness, embraces community service as an ongoing commitment and nominees whose influence has met a community need or enhanced the quality of life in the District of Columbia.
