Serve DC Announces Availability of Learn and Serve School-Based Grants

Serve DC, the DC Commission on National and Community Service, announces the availability of K-12 Learn and Serve America School-Based funds for grants up to $14,000. Learn and Serve America is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service that creates opportunities for youth to participate in service-learning initiatives. Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that offers students the opportunity to participate in meaningful and relevant community service activities that address authentic community needs and make curricular connections beyond the classroom.

Awards will be made to K-12 public schools in the District of Columbia to incorporate service-learning as an educational strategy in the classroom. This initiative will support a wide range of program activities that emphasize authentic youth engagement in their communities. These activities will enable youth to meet local environmental, educational, public safety, homeland security, or other community needs. Additionally, applicants must propose to implement service-learning projects that connect to one or more core curriculum standards.
