2008 AmeriCorps*State Formula Funding Now Available

Serve DC announces the availability of $689,700 in AmeriCorps*State Formula funds for 2008. Download the grant application instructions* now or visit Serve DC's office at 441 4th Street NW, Suite 1140 North for more information. The deadline for submission is March 21, 2008. All applicants should read the AmeriCorps Applicant Instructions as well as the AmeriCorps Notice of Funding Opportunities listed below for additional instructions.

Serve DC offers this funding to nonprofit organizations with the goal of enabling members of the community to improve and strengthen the lives of DC residents. Organizations also must work toward citywide goals and the priorities of DC State Service Plan. The grants are intended for nonprofits committed to assisting citizens to become more civically engaged in their neighborhoods and local communities; engage disadvantaged youth and persons with disabilities; and improve the safety and emergency preparedness of individuals working and living in the District of Columbia.

Qualified applicants will compete with other local new and continuing applicants for DC AmeriCorps*State funds made available through the Corporation on National and Community Service (CNCS). Applicants are eligible to apply for up to $302,400, 24 Member Service Years (MSY), of AmeriCorps*State Formula funds or up to $378,000, 30 MSY’s, for the Volunteering in Public Schools (VIPS) Initiative. Interested applicants can access the online grant application by visiting the Corporation on National and Community Service’s electronic grants system, eGrants, at http://www.americorps.gov, and the application instructions for additional information regarding MSY’s, important financial requirements, and due dates.

Potential applicants are required to attend one of the following technical assistance sessions: Thursday, February 7, 2008, from 5-7pm in 11th Floor City-Wide Conference Center at One Judiciary Square (441 4th Street, NW) in Conference Room 1114;  Thursday, February 21, 2008, from 5-7 pm 11th Floor City-Wide Conference Center at One Judiciary Square (441 4th Street, NW) in Conference Room 1107; February 28, 2008, from 1-3pm in 11th Floor City-Wide Conference Center in Conference Room 1117. A special VIPS informational teleconference will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 1-3 pm. Please contact Serve DC for more information. AmeriCorps is a national service network that offers full- and part-time opportunities for participants to make a positive local impact. AmeriCorps works to support issues that deal with the environment, education, public safety, Homeland Security and other unmet local human needs. Successful new applications that are recommended for funding will have access to the same funds as continuing AmeriCorps programs.
