Mount Pleasant Five-Alarm Fire Update

The District government is continuing to work with the residents affected by the early morning fire on March 13 on Mt. Pleasant Street, NW, to help them secure essential needs.

Clothing Donations will be available for impacted residents on the following dates:

  • Saturday, March 29, 9 am–6 pm
  • Sunday, March 30, 9 am–6 pm
  • Friday, April 4, 9 am–6 pm
  • Sunday, April 6, 9 am–6 pm

Location:
Reeves Municipal Building
2000 14th Street, NW
Edna Cromwell Community Room
2nd Floor

Residents will be able to select from new and gently used clothing and shoes. Some shopping bags will be available but residents are encouraged to bring their own bags.

The donated household goods will be distributed in cooperation with DHS/Strong Families and the Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Support Collaborative. These agencies will assess the needs of the family and list the essentials. As families are placed, basic household items will be identified and delivered to the family at the apartment that they have been relocated to.

There are several organizations that have received monetary donations to help to provide relief to the impacted families.  Individuals who contacted Serve DC were directed to make their donation through the American Red Cross.  Others have made donations to organizations that are assisting in the relief effort. While many of those organizations are not under the direct leadership of Serve DC, they are working in partnership with us to direct funds where they are needed the most (e.g. Columbia Heights/Shaw Family Support Collaborative). The funds will in large part be used to defray the costs associated with setting up households and that fall outside of what can be covered by donations.

Volunteers are needed to help sort donations. If interested, please contact Shirley Hall for more information about volunteering or call Serve DC at (202) 727-7925. Get more information about the Mount Pleasant Fire.
