This event, held May 14-16, 2008, will engage AmeriCorps members, Senior Corps, Learn and Serve America and AmeriCorps program directors, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members, and representatives from community and faith based organizations in workshops. In addition, the event will feature the Mayor’s Community Service Awards to celebrate the great works of leaders and organizations of local communities.
As District of Columbia’s Commission on National and Community Service, Serve DC has lead the challenge for over 7 years to meet the needs of community residents through volunteerism, partnership development, and serving as a funding resource for local community projects and programs. It is our belief that tomorrow’s leaders are ever present in local communities; but, they need resources, access to funding, and training to connect an idea to a sustainable, supported community project or program.
The conference is based on three main themes: Leadership, Collaboration, and Sustainability. These themes represent the continuum of growth that leads to healthy and strong communities. The 2008 DC Conference on Service and Leadership continues to serve as one of the many tools to assist leaders in creating the change in which they seek.
