A Proclamation by the Mayor of the District of Columbia

Whereas, during the week of May 9 - 16, 2009, Serve DC and the DC AmeriCorps Leadership Council will recognize AmeriCorps members and alumni for their
contributions to this program; and

Whereas, during the Seventh Annual DC All Corps Service Day, Serve DC and the DC AmeriCorps Leadership Council will bring together hundreds of national
service members and community participants for a day of service; and

Whereas, each year AmeriCorps provides opportunities for citizens across the nation and Washington, DC to give back to their communities; and

Whereas, the AmeriCorps members in Washington, DC provide more than 800,000 hours each year to help enhance the quality of life of the citizens in the
District of Columbia; and

Whereas, Serve DC works tirelessly to strengthen and promote the District of Columbia's spirit of service and volunteerism:

Now, therefore, I, the Mayor of the District of Columbia, do hereby proclaim May 9 - 16, 2009, as "AmeriCorps Week" in Washington, DC and call upon the residents of this great city to join me in celebrating the services that AmeriCorps members provide.
