Event helps prepare Peabody Early Childhood Center for emergencies
(Washington, DC) DC Citizen Corps, a program of Serve DC, will continue their celebration of National Emergency Preparedness Month, on Monday September 20, with an event at Peabody Early Childhood Center in Ward 6. DC Citizen Corps creates opportunities for individuals to help their communities prepare for and respond to emergencies. DC Citizen Corps, DC EMA and Jane's Information Group will make presentations to a group of approximately 80 students and 25 teachers.
The presentations will provide the students with a brief lesson in emergency preparedness, and will include resources from Jane's Information Group, a leading provider of intelligence and analysis on national and international defense, security and risk developments in the world. Jane's will be providing materials from their recently released School Safety Suite. The suite has been designed specifically to assist American schools in implementing the four-phase, "best practice model" school safety plan recommended by the US Department of Education. Jane's will also be providing their Citizen's Safety Guide, a reference on personal safety.
After each group has made a presentation to the students, DC EMA will open its Mobile Command Unit to tours for the children. The students will have an opportunity to see how and where decisions are made during emergencies in the District of Columbia.
