Washington, DC — The Child Support Services Division of the Office of the Attorney General has experienced continued, tangible progress in providing vital child support to families. Distributed collections increased from $38 million in 2001 to $48 million in 2006. The division has improved on the federal performance measures and avoided a federal penalty this year for the first time ever since the penalty system was enacted.
The District increased the percentage of out-of-wedlock births in the District with paternity established from 64% in 2003 to 78% in 2006. The percentage of cases with orders in place rose from 30% in 2002 to 45% in 2006. The share of all current support owed that was paid in a given year increased from 48% in 2002 to 53% in 2006.
