The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities staff wants to invite you to the final performance The Jazz Song. This program is part of the American Masterpieces project sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. This celebration of diverse vocal jazz traditions began September 16. Workshops were held at venues citywide and were open to select area performers and composers and lead by accomplished jazz masters such as Nnenna Freelon, Pierce Freelon, Rusty Hassan, Sharon Clark, Alan Baylock, Allyn Johnson and Connaitre Miller.
The project will culminate Sunday, September 21 at 6 pm in an open-to-the-public concert showcase at the Enrique V. Iglesias Conference Center of the Inter-American Development Bank, the event co-sponsor, featuring the best students gleaned from the workshops along with lead DC area jazz artists. Nnenna Freelon, six-time GRAMMY® Award-nominee and internationally renowned jazz vocalist, serves as Project Director.
