Attend the District's Artistic Bike Rack Dedication

The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) in collaboration with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells will mark the completion of 28 bike racks designed by six local artists. The artists whose designs were selected are Matt Barinholtz, Karin Edgett, William Gordon, Carolina Mayorga, Melinda Merinsky and Joe Sutliff. All six bike rack designs will be displayed at the dedication event.

The DC Creates Public Art Artistic Bike Rack proposal invited local artists to enhance the standard bike racks and create unique designs that could be placed in locations citywide. Artists were encouraged to incorporate their interpretation of the "DC experience" into their artwork as well as consider particular locations for the placement of the work. The intent of the project is to encourage more people to use bicycles and increase the number of bike racks throughout the District that are both functional and artistic.
