Rain, Possibly Heavy at Times, Forecast for Today

The National Weather Service has issued a forecast calling for showers today in the District and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are expected with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Motorists are urged to use caution. Residents should take steps to prevent water damage to basements by directing water runoff away from the foundation of homes. Gutters and catch basins also should be cleared of leaves and debris.
