City to Open Pools and Cooling Centers on Saturday and Sunday to Help Residents Beat the Heat

(Washington, DC) In response to the higher than average temperatures forecast for the weekend, the District of Columbia government will operate cooling centers from 12 pm to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8, 2008, at the following locations:

  • William Rumsey Aquatic Center, 635 North Carolina Avenue, SE
  • Takoma Aquatic Center, 300 Van Buren Street, NW
  • Brentwood Recreation Center, 2311 14th Street, NE
  • Barry Farm Recreation Center, 1230 Sumner Road, SE

The city also will open 18 outdoor swimming pools and four spray parks both days at 20 Department of Parks and Recreation locations across the city.  A complete list of locations is available at the Department of Parks and Recreation website. Select the links below for more information:
