The DC Office on Aging (DCOA) and its partners launched the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) with an unveiling by Mayor Adrian Fenty, Councilmember David Catania and Dr. Clarence Brown, executive director, DCOA. This new program assists the District’s elderly and persons with intellectual, physical and developmental disabilities in maximizing their independence and improving their quality of life by linking them with a range of quality private and public services in one single location.

 

Along with providing access to multiple government agencies under one roof, the ADRC will have professionals on hand to provide information, guidance, and counseling on a variety of services including: medical and legal assistance, links to privately funded and public services, assistance in care planning and outreach, resources for professionals, access to the Office on Aging Senior Service Network and the disability network, information and assistance with housing, transportation, and support for caregivers.

 

Over a dozen government agencies, private and non-profit organizations are collaborating with the Office on Aging to provide District residents with a simple and streamlined process for getting the guidance and information they need.  A few of the organizations supporting the ADRC include: Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP),  Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Department of Mental Health (DMH), Department of Human Services (DHS), Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Employment Services (DOES), Department of Disability Services (DDS), Addiction Prevention Recovery Administration (APRA), District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA), Office of Disability Rights (ODR), Adult Protective Services (APS), and many more.
