DC Office on Aging Urges Seniors to Stay Cool

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the District of Columbia for today until 8 pm Wednesday. Heat indexes are expected to reach over 110. Temperatures forecasted to reach near 100 combined with high humidity and haze can be a deadly mix.

Older persons should avoid mid-day sun. If you must go out, remember to take protective measures to ensure that you will not be affected by the extreme temperatures: stay in the shade, wear a wide-brimmed hat, wear light-colored and lightweight clothing, drink plenty of decaffeinated liquids and take it easy.
