DC Office on Aging Urges Seniors to Stay Cool

(Washington, DC) The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning from Noon today until Thursday. Temperatures expected to reach triple digits with heat indexes expected to reach near 110 degrees. Temperatures over 100 degrees combined with high humidity can be a deadly mix for people of all ages.

If going out cannot be avoided, seniors should remember to take protective measures, including staying in the shade, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, wearing light-colored and light-weight clothing, drinking plenty of decaffeinated liquids and avoiding exertion.

Seniors may also call the Office on Aging at (202) 724-5626 for more information.
