(Washington, DC) The District of Columbia Government will close on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 to observe the National Day of Mourning due to the passing of Gerald R. Ford, the thirty-eighth President of the United States.
All executive departments, independent organizations and other agencies of the federal government will be closed as a sign of respect to President Ford, as approved by Executive Order by President George W. Bush.
In keeping with past practice when the President of the United States passes an Executive Order of this nature and in tribute to President Ford, District government agencies and departments under the authority of the Mayor will also be closed on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. However, essential public services will continue to be provided on that day.
