DCOP Changes Name to DC Department of Human Resources

(Washington, DC) The DC Office of Personnel was officially renamed the DC Department of Human Resources on Friday, March 2, 2007, after an Administrative Order signed by Mayor Adrian M. Fenty was released.

The change is meant better reflect the mission and wide-ranging responsibilities of the department, said Brender L. Gregory, DCHR Acting Director.

Ms. Gregory said the name change will bring a new energy and a new focus on the department’s core critical goal: to be an efficient, effective, and customer-friendly service driven organization.

“For me this is not simply a name change,” Gregory said. “This ushers in a fresh attitude and a new focus on getting ‘back to the basics’ of what we do. We want to ensure we are efficient in providing all manner of human resource functions for the employees and the residents of the District of Columbia. It truly is a new day for this department.”

DCHR is responsible for more than 25,000 District employees and processes benefits for nearly 36,000 employees, including the DC Public Schools. DCHR recruits and hires an average of nearly 4,000 employees annually, processes more than 37,000 personnel actions and trains more than 6,000 employees annually through its Center for Workforce Development.

DCHR will begin the process of revising its Web site and other informational materials immediately to reflect the name change.
