Open Enrollment Season, hosted by the DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR), enters its final week. Open Enrollment Season ends Monday, December 8, 2008.
This week marks the final opportunity for District government employees under both the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program and the District of Columbia Employees Health Benefits (DCEHB) Program to select, change or update their employee benefit selections for the 2009 plan year.
Open Enrollment is the only time during the year (with limited exceptions) that District government employees may make certain benefit plan changes; this includes choosing a health care plan, enrolling in the short-term disability insurance program, setting up flexible spending accounts, and for DCEHB participants this year only, life insurance elections can also be changed.
DCHR encourages all eligible employees to use ESS (Employee Self Service) to make open enrollment selections and changes. ESS is the fastest and most convenient way to make and update benefit selections. It is fast, easy, convenient and paperless.
The last five Open Season Health Fairs will be held this week, December 1-6, 2008.
The popular fairs, hosted in partnership with other District government agencies, bring District government employees face-to-face with representatives from nationally recognized healthcare and financial services vendors who will provide them with information and answers to help them make better informed decisions about their benefits coverage. The on location fairs are held at various District government office buildings and work sites around the city to give District employees easy access to the fairs and vendors.
