(Washington, DC) The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) and the DC Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department have extended the deadline for accepting applications for permits for the retail sale of fireworks in the District of Columbia.
Permit applications must be submitted in person to DCRA's Permit Center by Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 4:30 pm. DCRA's Permit Center is located at 941 North Capitol Street, NE, Room 2300.
Fire permits for the sale of retail fireworks in the District of Columbia must be obtained from the DC Fire/EMS office of the Fire Marshal by Thursday, June 28 at 4:45 pm. The DC Fire/EMS office of the Fire Marshal is located at 441 4th Street, NW.
Remember: A DCRA permit and license is required to sell retail fireworks. This may include an electrical permit for the use of any generator. A building permit is required prior to erecting any stand for fireworks sales.
Note: Although the electrical and building permit requirement only applies to fireworks vendors; retail stores that want to sell fireworks must still meet these deadlines.
Selling permissible fireworks without the required licenses and permits from DCRA and the DC Fire/EMS may result in criminal prosecution.
DCRA requires any temporary structure that stores or retails fireworks to be inspected by DCRA and that structure be taken down by midnight, July 5, 2007.
