(Washington, DC) Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) Director Linda K. Argo today announced the appointment of Matthew Le Grant as Zoning Administrator for the District of Columbia.
"Matt brings solid knowledge of a variety of urban zoning and planning environments to the District," said Argo. "Through his service as the District's Deputy and Acting Zoning Administrator over the past two years, Matt has shown balance and a clear facility to keenly interpret the complexities of District zoning regulations."
The Zoning Administrator interprets, manages and enforces District Zoning Regulations and Board of Zoning Adjustment and Zoning Commission orders.
The Zoning Administrator bases all decisions on the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (DCMR) which contains the permanent rules, statements and legal documents circulated by District government executive agencies and departments. Title 11 of the DCMR covers zoning.
The Zoning Administrator enforces zoning code compliance to assure that only correct permits and certificates of occupancy are issued. The Zoning Administrator also oversees the Office of the Zoning Administrator.
Le Grant served as Zoning Administrator for the City of Berkeley in California where he took the lead in rewriting Berkeley's zoning regulations. He also served as an urban planner with the City of Alexandria, VA.
Le Grant graduated from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in city and regional planning. He received his Master of City Planning degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
