(Washington) The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs’ Zoning Administrator today released the results of The George Washington University’s (GWU) student head count audit.
The GWU gave auditors Walker & Company, LLP a student head count for two periods: Fall 2005 and Spring 2006. The audit showed that the student head count numbers are–with four very minor adjustments–accurately reflected by the GWU in its reports to the DC Office of Zoning.
The Zoning Administrator considers the methods GWU uses to count students (for the campus plan) to be reasonable. However, he recommends that the Zoning Commission provide more clarity to the GWU and community for conducting future head counts. The campus plan is in place to protect the residential neighborhood by limiting the number of students.
The Zoning Administrator recommends that all students–physically present in the neighborhood when they attend courses at the GWU Foggy Bottom campus–be counted.
