The District of Columbia Taxicab Commission (“Commission”) has released a study, conducted by the George Washington University’s School of Public Policy and Administration, analyzing the revenue impact of installing meters throughout the District of Columbia. Meters were installed in 25 vehicles and collected data related to the trip on a printed receipt.  View study.*

According to Leon J. Swain, Jr., Chairperson for the DC Taxicab Commission, this study is a part of a number of documents, which the Commission will review in arriving at a recommendation to Mayor Fenty on the issue of meters in the District of Columbia.  According to legislation, enacted by Congress, meters are required in District taxicabs unless the Mayor decides to opt out.

The Commission also announces that it will hold a community meeting on meters in the District on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in the 5A meeting room, level A. The capacity of the room is 250 persons.
