Taxicab Commission Releases Taxicab Rider Survey

The District of Columbia Taxicab Commission (“Commission”) has released the results of the telephone survey of
611 DC Columbia Taxicab riders from August 10 to August 14, 2007. Here is a sampling of some of the results.

Infrequent Use of Cabs by DC Residents

  • 67 percent  infrequent (up from 50 percent  in 1994)
  • 1-in-5 never use taxi service
  • Wide variations among Wards (e.g. Ward 8)
Opinion Split Over Change to Meters
  • 48 percent agree/49 percent disagree with change
  • 54 percent support T/D meters, 58 percent  zone-meters< DIV>
1-in-3 Rate Overall Cab Service Positively
  • 67 percent find service fair/poor
  • Negative rate highest among frequent users
  • Majority find current zone system difficult
Up from 41 percent  in 1994

  •  4-in-5 frequent cab users find zones difficult 
  •  37 percent are dissatisfied with current system
