The effective date for implementing a time and distance taximeter system for the District of Columbia has been changed to May 1, 2008. The time for filing written comments on the Proposed Rulemaking to implement the taximeter system has also been extended to March 26, 2008. The Proposed Rulemaking, which was last published on February 29, 2008 at 55 DCR 2147, includes amendments to Chapters 6, 8, 10, 11, and 12 and the addition of a new Chapter 13 in Title 31 of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations.
The implementation date for the taximeter system and the comment period have been extended to because of a typographical error in the publication of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on January 25, 2008, to ensure that the public has an opportunity to comment on the Proposed Rulemaking, and to allow sufficient time for the installation of taximeters in licensed taxicabs operating in the District of Columbia. All comments should be filed with Leon Swain, Chairperson, District of Columbia Taxi Commission, 2041 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE, Suite 204, Washington, D.C. 20020. Copies of the Proposed Rulemaking may be obtained by writing to the above address.
