Washington, DC – The short film “RiverSmart” about the impact of stormwater pollution on the District’s waterways makes its debut March 16 as part of the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital. The film, produced by DDOE, presents the innovative practices the District Government is using to combat combined sewage overflows and stormwater’s impact on streams and rivers.

“With this brief documentary, we’ve found a way to make stormwater make sense,” said DDOE director George S. Hawkins. “Every homeowner and business owner can help keep dangerous pollutants out of the District’s waterways. RiverSmart explains how.”

RiverSmart features local media personalities, scientists, and DDOE staff. It premieres Monday, March 16 at 7 pm at the Landmark E Street Cinema. An additional screening and discussion with DDOE staff will take place Wednesday, March 18 at 5 pm at the University of the District of Columbia, Building 41. Both showings are free and open to the public.
