DDOT Unveils Ledroit Park Gateway Arch

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) Emeka Moneme, Director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Councilmember Jim Graham on Friday, March 9, 2007, will join community leaders and residents for the unveiling of the LeDroit Park gateway arch signifying the completion of the second phase of streetscape upgrades in the LeDroit Park neighborhood.

This second phase included upgrading Second, Third, Fifth and Sixth Streets between R Street and U Street, NW. These upgrades included:

  • Resurfaced roadways, new brick sidewalks, tree boxes, trees, landscaping, utility upgrades and street lights (historic Washington Globes).

As part of this project DDOT worked very closely with the LeDroit Park Civic Association (LPCA) and ANC1B on several successful initiatives including the dedication of T Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets, NW, to “Home of Walter Washington Way.”

The third and final phase of the project, which includes Fourth Street between Florida and W Streets, is slated to begin mid-March 2007.

The gateway arch is fabricated from cast iron and is 10 feet wide and 12 feet tall. It stands at the corner of Sixth and T Streets, NW, and symbolizes an entrance into the LeDroit Park historic neighborhood.
