(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will hold a media briefing and availability announcing the ahead-of-schedule reopening of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (sometimes referred to as the South Capitol Street Bridge).
The reopening follows this summer’s major bridge renovation and lowering of the bridge’s northern approach. The bridge is scheduled to be open to traffic and pedestrians during overnight hours Wednesday night/Thursday morning, in time for the morning rush hour on Thursday, August 30.
The reopening of this major commute route is expected to provide much needed relief to the thousands of residents and commuters who used alternate routes or modes of travel in and out of the District of Columbia this summer. This congestion relief comes ahead of schedule and in time for the busy fall commute season, following the Labor Day holiday.
