Mayor Fenty and DDOT Celebrate Completion of Florida Avenue Streetscape Project
Rehabilitation Complete as DDOT Wraps $5 million Upgrade

(Washington, DC) Mayor Adrian M. Fenty will join Emeka Moneme, Director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) on Tuesday to announce that DDOT’s work on Florida Avenue is complete after a $5 million restoration and upgrade. Work on the year-long project ran from 9th Street NW to North Capitol Street.

This stretch of Florida Avenue was for a long time one of the most difficult roadways to travel on for motorists and pedestrians.

The rehabilitation and upgrade featured:

  • Streetscape redesign and fully resurfaced roadway
  • New granite curbs and new gutters
  • New brick sidewalks
  • New historic Washington Globe streetlighting
  • New striping, signage and pedestrian safety upgrades
