DDOT Continues Road Safety Ad Campaign

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) this week launched a new series of advertisements to continue its outreach efforts encouraging motorists to drive safely in the District of Columbia. The new advertisements focus on spreading the message that drivers should concentrate on the road and avoid distractions.

The effort began last October as the “Be Safe, Share the Road!” campaign and is part of DDOT’s long term agreement with Clear Channel/Adshel, which is in the process of replacing the District’s bus shelters across the city. As part of the agreement, DDOT was given the free use of 43 existing billboards (measuring 12 feet wide by 6 feet high) to promote safety and other issues.

“At DDOT, safety always has been and always will be our number one priority,” said Emeka Moneme, acting DDOT Director. “These new billboards can help us — along with our government, private sector and community partners — spread the word that if you’re driving in the District of Columbia, pay attention to the road, and only to the road.”

The new billboards read “Distracted Drivers Kill!” and encourage motorists to refrain from using mobile phone handsets, eating, or applying makeup while driving.  There are currently 43 new billboard locations within the District in Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

Locations include:

  • 1748 Seventh Street, NW
  • 2901 Sherman Avenue at Harvard Street, NW
  • 5510 Third Street at Riggs Road, NE

The new billboard is available to view online, as is information about the District's Districted Driving Safety Act.
