(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is pleased to announce its completion of the newly revised District of Columbia Taxi Zone Map* for placement in the District’s taxicabs. DDOT has presented the map to the District of Columbia Taxicab Commission for review.
“We hope that the Commission will agree that this map is very customer friendly and serves the needs of riders,” said Emeka Moneme, acting Director of DDOT. “And we hope that the Commission places the map into District taxi cabs as soon as possible.”
The redesign of the map—an initiative of the Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s Action Plan: 100 Days and Beyond—is geared toward improving customer service and providing a more comprehensible map to the riding public. The latest version shows the city in its correct directional orientation, highlighting the four quadrants of the city: Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast.
“If you’re riding in a taxi cab in the District, it is your right as a rider to have access to clear and concise map, zone and fare information,” said Mayor Fenty. “I am thrilled that DDOT worked quickly to redesign this map to help improve the riding experience for taxi cab customers across the nation’s capital.”
Other features of the redesigned map include:
- A list of updated fares reflecting the Taxi Cab Commission’s newly updated rates
- A cut-to-fit map that showcases the entire city, its borders and regional boundaries
- Identification of important transportation-oriented landmarks—such as Reagan National Airport and Union Station
- The map also highlights major roads and historic landmarks in the District.
