The National Weather Service has reported that the current storm system has started to taper off with no additional snow accumulation expected. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty announced that the District of Columbia government will lift the current Snow Emergency at 9 pm, Sunday, February 25, 2007. At that time vehicles can return to park on streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Department of Public Works (DPW) will continue to plow and treat all District roads throughout the evening in a full deployment mode. Current reports indicate passable street conditions.
Drivers are asked to continue to be careful and cautious of icy conditions. Drivers are requested to maintain a safe distance from the salt trucks and plows while the District works to clear the roads. Residents and businesses are reminded to clear sidewalks and assist elderly neighbors. Taxicabs in the District will return to normal fares at 9 pm.
