DDOT Launches 'Pothole Patrol' With Mayor Adrian M. Fenty
Warmer Temperatures Spark Annual Pothole Season and DDOT Crews Are on the Prowl

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) Crews from the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) on Thursday joined Mayor Adrian M. Fenty to fill a pothole in Southeast at Minnesota Avenue and 36th Street.

March brings the start of the annual pothole season as rising temperatures bring about the advent of potholes. DDOT crews are out in force throughout the District of Columbia, inspecting roads and responding to requests.

Residents in the District can help be DDOT's partners by calling the Mayor's Citywide Call Center at (202) 727-1000 to report potholes. DDOT works to fill reported potholes within 48 hours.

“This is the time of year when DDOT’s crews are out in all eight wards,” said Mayor Fenty. “I urge residents to remember that we need your help—call 727-1000 and report a pothole in your neighborhood or one that you see on your way to work.”

DDOT typically receives the most pothole reports in March—more than any other month of the year, as cold temperatures ease and winter weather takes its toll on roads.  DDOT uses both in-house crews and contractors for pothole repair.

DDOT works to fill service requests first—then repairs other observed potholes. Last year DDOT received approximately 3,600 requests for repairs either called into 727-1000 or sent to the DC.gov website via email. All of those requests were filled.

“I want to thank our crews for all their hard work,” said Emeka Moneme, DDOT’s acting Director. “Our residents expect for potholes to be filled quickly, and we work hard to meet the 48-hour turnaround time from when a request comes in to when we fill a pothole.”
