The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is committed to supporting the educational goals of students interested in careers in public service.
In this spirit, DDOT sponsors an internship program that exposes participants to job experiences that complement their academic training and career aspirations.
What is DDOT? We manage and maintain the city’s transportation infrastructure.
DDOT:
- Plans, designs, constructs, and maintains the District's streets, alleys, sidewalks, bridges, traffic signals, and street lights
- Manages and makes improvements to the street system to facilitate traffic flow through the District of Columbia
- Manages, with the Department of Public Works, the removal of snow and ice from city streets
- Coordinates the District's mass transit services, including the reduced-fare program for students using MetroBus and MetroRail
- DDOT also plans and develops ways to mitigate traffic congestion and improve the District’s air quality
Interns gain exposure to many technical, professional and management jobs available in the fields of transportation and government administration.
DDOT invites undergraduate and graduate students to participate in a year-round internship program, specifically designed to develop skills and knowledge while providing career-building work experiences. DDOT provides interns with unique experiences that promote professional development in one of the most active and visible parts of city government.
DDOT is currently accepting applications for summer internships.
