DDOT Begins Sidewalk Work in Upper Georgia Avenue Corridor
Work on Georgia Avenue from Fern Place to District Line Slated to Begin Late June

Contact (Media Only): Erik Linden (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) As part of its Great Streets Initiative on the upper Georgia Avenue corridor, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) yesterday began sidewalk and curb installation on Geranium Street from 12th Street to Blair Road, Northwest. This is a location that previously did not have sidewalks.

This effort will also include reconstruction of sidewalks and curbs at:

  • Hemlock Street from Georgia Avenue to Ninth Street, NW
  • Shepherd Road from Georgia Avenue to 12th Street, NW
  • Juniper Street from Georgia Avenue to Eighth Street, NW

Sidewalk and curb work at the above locations is slated to be completed in August, weather permitting. Note that parking restrictions will be in effect during sidewalk work.

Improvements on Georgia Avenue from Fern Place to the District line are slated to begin in late June. Work will include rehabilitation of sidewalks, high visibility pavement marking improvements, upgrade of wheelchair ramps, adding new tree boxes and widening existing tree boxes as necessary.

Installation of trees and wrought iron fencing in the new boxes will take place in the fall planting season. Also, high visibility pavement markings will be placed for safety improvements.

The work on Georgia Avenue is scheduled to be completed in early fall, weather permitting.
