March for Life on January 22

Contact: Officer Junis Fletcher, (202) 727-4140

(Washington, DC) The Metropolitan Police Department advises the public that temporary, intermittent street closings and parking restrictions will be in effect on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, to accommodate the annual March for Life. It is anticipated that temporary street closures will include 4th Street, NW, to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, and Constitution Avenue, NW, to First Street, NE, from approximately 1 to 4 pm. In addition, due to possible “feeder marches”, there will be anticipated street closures on 7th Street between H Street, NW, and Independence Avenue, SW, and  Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, from 4th Street to 7th Street. These streets will reopen to vehicular traffic immediately after the marchers pass.

The main march is scheduled to begin at the National Mall area between 4th Street, NW, and 7th Street, NW, at approximately 9 am, where marchers will assemble on the Mall grounds and continue until approximately 1 pm, when the group will march to the Supreme Court. The march route and streets intersecting it will be closed to vehicular traffic intermittently to accommodate the March for Life. The march will proceed north on 4th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, east on Pennsylvania Avenue and continue onto Constitution Avenue, NW, to 1st Street, NE, then continue south on 1st Street, NE, past the Supreme Court at 1st and East Capitol Street, NE, then east on East Capitol Street, NE, where they will disband at 2nd Street, NE. It is anticipated that this march will last approximately three hours.

In conjunction with this event, no parking will be allowed at the following locations from 7 am until 2 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 2008.

  • Both sides of 4th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
  • Both sides of 7th Street from F Street, NW to Jefferson Drive, SW
  • North side of Constitution Avenue from 3rd Street to Louisiana Avenue, NW
