Media Contact:  Karyn Le Blanc (202) 671-3490

(Washington, DC) The Director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Chief of the Transportation Safety Division were recently recognized for their continued efforts to promote traffic and pedestrian safety and were awarded with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Medal of Merit. The awards were recently presented at the Eighth Annual Metropolitan Police Department Awards Ceremony. The ceremony honors the sworn officers and civilian employees of the MPDC and law enforcement partners who help to make a difference in communities throughout the year.

Emeka Moneme, Director of DDOT, has been instrumental in supporting the Metropolitan Police Department’s traffic safety operations. Through his efforts, he has spearheaded DDOT’s participation in monthly Multi-agency Targeted Safety Sessions (MATTS) and coordinated a number of Inter-Agency initiatives aimed at addressing traffic and pedestrian safety within the District.

Carole Lewis serves as the Chief of the Transportation Safety Division within DDOT. Ms. Lewis is instrumental in supporting MPD’s traffic safety operations. Programs such as Click it or Ticket and Smooth Operator are just two that Ms. Lewis assists MPD in executing. These programs and others are integral to effectively educate the public and enforce traffic and pedestrian safety throughout the District.

DDOT is dedicated to increasing pedestrian and traffic safety awareness through smart education and engineering practices as well as supporting enforcement efforts with MPD.
