DDOT Launches Visitor Parking Pass Pilot in Mt. Pleasant
Visitor Passes Mailed This Week

MEDIA CONTACT (ONLY):  John Lisle at (202) 671-2004

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is launching a one year Visitor Parking Pass (VPP) Pilot Program in Mount Pleasant. The passes were mailed this week to each eligible household in the neighborhood (ANC 1D). The pilot is intended to address the inconvenience to residents caused by having to obtain a new visitor parking permit each time a visitor is expected. A similar pilot program launched in late 2007 in Ward 4 was well received by residents and has been extended another year.

Every home, located on a Residential Permit Parking (RPP) zoned block within the boundaries of Mt. Pleasant, should receive one Visitor Parking Pass. Eligible residents, who do not receive their VPP in the mail, may request one by calling DDOT at (202) 671-2333.

Mt. Pleasant (ANC 1D) Visitor Parking Pass (VPP)
The VPP is valid through March 31, 2010 and displays a unique ID number for each resident. The VPP allows visitor parking for periods longer than two hours on blocks where RPP signs read Zone 1D or *1DD and it is not tied to any particular vehicle or visitor.

Visitors should display the Visitor Parking Pass on the driver’s side of the dashboard. At the end of the visit, visitors should return the VPP to the resident.

Conditions for Use of the Visitor Parking Pass
  • VPP is only valid within Mt. Pleasant (ANC 1D) on streets with the Zone 1D or 1DD** designation on the RPP parking signs.
  • VPP is not to be used as a substitute for a valid RPP sticker on a vehicle owned by a resident of the household.
  • VPP does not provide an exemption from the Registration of Out-of-State Automobiles (ROSA requirement to register a vehicle in the District of Columbia within 30 days of residency.
  • Vehicles displaying an invalid pass will be subject to a RPP parking citation.
  • Duplication or sale of the pass is strictly prohibited and violators are subject to a $300 fine.

Inquiries related to the Mt. Pleasant Visitor Parking Pilot should be directed to the Public Space Policy Branch at (202) 671-2333.

**1DD is the designation for the Day Pass that will be available for purchase by employees of Mt. Pleasant based businesses, including schools and other institutions, in the coming months.x
