The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is encouraging eligible transit riders to take advantage of significant discounts offered by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Many senior citizens and persons with disabilities may be using regular SmarTrip® cards and paying full fare for their bus and rail trips, but they could save 50 percent by switching to a Senior SmarTrip® card or a Reduced Fare SmarTrip® card.
Those riders can exchange their regular cards for discounted cards, free of charge, at one of three events scheduled in early April:

Metro headquarters is located on 5th Street, NW, between G and F Streets. It can be reached by Metrobus Routes D1, D3 and D6, P6 , 70, 71, 80 or X2. It is also near the Gallery Place-Chinatown and Judiciary Square Metro Stations.
The Senior SmarTrip® cards are available for riders 65 or older. Please bring photo identification. For the Reduced Fare SmarTrip® card, riders must present a valid Metro Disability ID Card or a completed application for the Reduced Fare Program for People with Disabilities.
