DDOT Expands Public Outreach—Now on Facebook
New page complements existing communication tools.

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today paved the way for improved and more interactive communication with District residents with the launch of a Facebook page. The new page complements DDOT’s existing communication tools which now include Twitter, e-mail alerts and the DDOT website, ddot.dc.gov .  The inclusion of the new page allows the agency to reach an expanded audience on the popular social networking site.

“As I promised when I took this role,” said DDOT Director Gabe Klein, “we are going to make better use of technology to make DDOT more transparent and responsive to residents. The Facebook page is part of that strategy: it will allow us to share more information with the public, and get instant feedback.”

DDOT joins other District agencies including the District Department of the Environment, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Fire and Emergency Management Services, Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the Chief Technology Officer that have also launched Facebook pages.

To become a “fan” of the DDOT Facebook page, users can search for “District Department of Transportation.” If you don’t have a Facebook account, you can register at facebook.com free of charge, or click here to view the page.

The page gives everyone access to:

  • the latest news and traffic advisories
  • photos from DDOT events and projects
  • a calendar of upcoming public meetings and other events
  • links to project plans and updates
  • contact information for service requests, questions and comments

DDOT already has a presence on another social network: Twitter. Follow DDOT at www.twitter.com/DDOTDC  and get real-time updates about traffic, construction projects, events and other transportation news. You can also “tweet” service requests to DDOT.

People can also sign up for e-mail alerts at ddot.dc.gov. Alerts and information about DDOT projects are sent on a regular basis and include press releases, traffic advisories and important DDOT updates.

“Twitter, Facebook, and soon online discussions,” said Director Klein. “We’re going to use every tool available to communicate with the residents of the District, and we encourage them to join us in this conversation. A better dialogue will lead to a better transportation network and a more livable city.”
