(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) began upgrading the existing streetlights on East Capitol Street between 53rd Street and Southern Avenue beginning May 15, 2006. This project is scheduled to be completed by November 2006, weather permitting.
Construction involves the installation of black pendant poles fitted with teardrop fixtures and 250-watt high-pressure sodium lamps, manholes/handholes, conduits and cable. All existing streetlight poles and fixtures will be replaced and/or removed. Construction will include permanent repairs to all disturbed areas on the roads and sidewalks.
Construction will be accomplished as follows:
- Start date was May 15, 2006 and will be completed by November 25, 2006.
- Contractor’s working hours will be 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday. (Except holidays and some Saturdays if warranted.)
During construction, a portion or the entire street may be closed to motorists based on approved Maintenance of Traffic control plan. Parking will be restricted and ‘No Parking’ signs will be posted 72 hours in advance of any construction.
