(Washington, DC) On May 19, Michelle Pourciau, Acting Director of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will join the Downtown DC Business Improvement District (BID) in launching a new website - http://www.godcgo.com/ - to help navigate travel information sources in the District of Columbia. Pourciau will announce the new site during Bike to Work Day 2006 on Freedom Plaza.
"Until now, residents and commuters had to visit several different sources for transportation information," said Pourciau. "Now, with 'goDCgo.com' we're putting it all in one place. We're harnessing the power of the Internet to provide information - with the ultimate goal of promoting alternative modes of transportation. That's wonderful news for District residents, commuters and tourists."
The site, which is in "beta" form, is taking input from users to help shape its future. The site is a partnership between the Downtown BID and DDOT. The BID will operate the site, with funding and coordination coming from DDOT. The site provides transportation information that makes getting around the District easier. The site will include information on parking, transit, bicycling, carsharing, road closures and more. Novel features will include an interactive map, as well as numerous useful links.
"How you get to and around downtown DC is a part of the experience of being here," said Rich Bradley, Executive Director of the Downtown Business Improvement District. "We think that goDCgo.com travel information will give you greater travel choices and increased satisfaction with your downtown experience."
The idea for www.goDCgo.com came out of the Mayor's Downtown Congestion Taskforce. The Downtown Congestion Task Force's 2004 recommendations included a call for better traveler information to mitigate the increased travel demands accompanying the continued growth of the District's downtown.
